Formulating Competency Dictionary

A competency dictionary is a tool that includes all the competencies needed to cover all job families and competencies that are core or common to all jobs within an organization. It comprises both behavioral and technical competencies.

Each competency has proficiency levels which are described in terms of behavioral indicators. Competencies are mapped to specific roles and their expected levels. They are identified based on the organization’s needs assessed as a result of interviews, focused groups, and employee surveys.

Competency Dictionary is the foundation of any organization’s competency-based HR initiative, including selection, assessment, performance management, and succession planning.
